Do you feel your body change as the seasons change? How does the change of seasons affect your mood? Perhaps this is something you haven’t considered or noticed before.

It’s a fact that our physical body requires different routines with the change of seasons. Just like our nutrition and sleep patterns adapt to the changing environment, our body craves a different rhythm.

If you feel like your sleep patterns are different or that your morning routine has changed, how can you flow with this change in tempo?

Do you feel motivated to do the same type of exercises?

It’s important to lean into our body and mind and learn to listen attentively to the body’s subtle messages.

What can you do to find balance and energy?

Finding a way to smoothly transition into the upcoming season is the key to manage any change.

Here are 4 ways to help uplift your mood and emotional state:

  1. Spend time in nature. Go outside for peaceful walks without distractions and breathe in the fresh, crisp air. Hug a tree.

  2. Make a commitment to meditate in the morning and before bed. The mind needs this time to listen and just be.

  3. Spend less time connected to your devices: social media, TV, media/news. Take the time to connect with your loved ones. Have meaningful conversations.

  4. Take time daily to journal. Journal prompts: How do you want to feel today? What emotions will serve you today. What am I so grateful for right now? This practice takes very little time, and allows your mind to re-focus on what’s working in your life right now

By committing time and energy to working on our emotional/mental well-being, we set the stage for our body to adapt and heal.

Our physical body is a representation of our internal emotional state, directional compass and thermostat. We were designed as self-healing and self-regulating miracles in motion... as the seasons change, so do our routines. This change happens so that we can feel in alignment with Mother Earth.

These 4 physical movements are designed to give your body the chance to recalibrate, awaken and strengthen new neural pathways. They are meant to be done slowly, with attention and intention. This can be done first thing in the morning or after a long period of sitting.

  1. Walking glute activation:
Take a step forward with your left foot. As you plant your front foot, rotate the heel of your right foot outwards so the weight is on the outer 3 toes. Use the outside of your right glute to power this movement. Repeat on the other side and continue to walk through this exercise for 1 minute.

  2. Single leg hinge:
Plant your left leg/foot into the ground. Hinge over from your left hip. Send your right leg straight out behind you. Keep a neutral spine. As you hinge forward, rotate your right toes inward. Tempo: Take 2 seconds to hinge over. 2 seconds to come up. Repeat on the other side.

  3. Triple angled squat:
With a small loop band just above the knee, standing 1 foot away from the wall. Feet are shoulder width apart. Start with your hands at your shoulders. In good posture: head straight, chest up, pelvis tucked. Move down into a controlled squatting position. Taking 2 seconds to complete it. As you come up from the squat, come up on your toes into a calf raise. Allow your body to come forward on an angle, while rotating your heels out. Use the wall to support you.

  4. Plank:
Start in a front plank position on your forearms. Hold it for 2 seconds. Slowly rotate clockwise. Reach your fingertips to the sky. Let your feet fall onto their sides. Keep your hips/pelvis up. Maintain alignment and good posture in the side plank position: shoulders back and squeezed, neck relaxed. Take the right arm down into a front plank. Repeat on the other side. Continue to move through the motions for 30 seconds.

These movements will allow your body to flow with the vital energy of life.

There’s no coincidence that when you feel unbalanced in your life, your physical body may feel the same. To reignite your passion, energy and joie-de-vivre, find the activities and rituals that make you feel alive. Do more of that.

Live in Harmony.
Live with Love.
